Called Reate in old times, this town is placed on a small hill dominating a huge flat area at the foot of Mount Terminillo and is crossed by the River Velino. In Rieti there has been installed a lighting system 'Rondò' , with four arms and a central self-lighted obelisk (Greek style), in yellow colour.
