Reggio Calabria is the most important town in Calabria and in the whole South of Italy, both for is antiquity and for the number of its inhabitants. It is the chief town of the province with the same name and seat of the regional Council of Calabria. The municipal district is the centre of a wider metropolitan area including several towns. Reggio is in the centre of a tourist area, significant for its historical and cultural importance as well as for its seaside resorts. It is a university town, and is placed in the centre of a very fertile agricultural region thanks to its mild climate.
In October 2007 one of the first kiosk systems, Hortae System, was installed in Reggio Calabria. It is used as a newspaper kiosk.
