Tripoli is the capital of Libya and its population is 1.6 million. Tripoli lies in the North-West area of the country close to the desert on a rocky strip of land stretching out into the Mediterranean Sea and creating a bay.

Tripoli is the most densely populated town. It is the main seaport and it has the largest area devoted to business and manufactured production in Libya. It is also the site of the Al-Fateh University and national government.
