Rome is the capital of the Italian Republic as well as chief town of the province with the same name and of its region, Lazio.
It is the most populated and extensive town in Italy with over 2,700,000 inhabitants and its 1,285 square km. It contains, in its boundaries, the Vatican City, heart of Christianity. The old town centre is evidence of the superimposition of 2,800 years of history and for this it has been included in the list of mankind’s heritage by UNESCO. It is one of the busiest tourist destinations the world over.
