Cesena | ITALY

Cesena has an ancient history. It was an Umbrian centre, before the Roman colonization. When the Romans conquered the Savio Valley between the III and II century B.C., they occupied Cesena as well: here, the Via Emilia made - and still makes – a sweep through the town. The agricultural products from this district were already well-known over two thousand years ago: Pliny counts the wine from Cesena (that is Sangiovese), in his XIV Book of Natural History, among the most famous wines in the Empire. During the period of the medieval communes Cesena was the theatre of fierce disputes.

In 1357 Cia degli Ubaldini, wife to Francesco Ordelaffi, Prince of Forlì and People Leader in Cesena, was forced to yield, after defending the Rocca, her fortress, with legendary bravery. Cesena thus returned under papal government. One hundred years later, in 1377, this town experienced terrible days: Breton mercenaries in the pay of Pope Gregory XI, under the pretence of putting down a brawl between soldiers and merchants, laid waste the town.
The town, almost shattered, was given by Pope Urban VI to Galeotto Malatesta.

And Cesena flourished under the seigniory of the Malatestas: this is still proved nowadays by important Malatestian monuments, such as the fortress (Rocca) and especially the extraordinary Library, a treasure of European architecture and culture, built under the domination of Novello Malatesta, a cultivated humanist.
The establishment of the University is the latest action of this “redevelopment” of Cesena which, also from a cultural point of view, assumes an important role, both at regional and national levels.

Several products of various kinds manufactured by Ghisamestieri have been installed in Cesena, the town where this Company has its seat: lamp-posts, systems for traffic roundabouts, a lot of elements for urban decoration, such as benches, bollards, cantilever roofs etc., to prove the Company’s care for the development of its district.
