Catania | ITALY

Catania is a town of 301,564 inhabitants and is the chief town of the province with the same name. It is the second town in Sicily both for number and for people density and is the most populated town in Italy among the ones that are not regional chief towns.
According to Plutarch, a Greek historian, its name comes from “Katane” (meaning “grater”), associating it to the roughness of the lava ground on which it stands. The old city centre has been declared a heritage of mankind’s, together with the seven towns in Val di Noto, in 2002. Catania has been supplied with several classical lamp-posts wholly in cast-iron with cast-iron top-post group systems and lanterns mod. LQ.
